Description: The American Children series, designed
and sculpted by Dewees Cochran and produced by Effanbee were the first
realistic dolls manufactured in the United States. They were also
the first dolls to have separated fingers, for which miniature gloves
were made.
This American Child Doll is the first reproduction of Dewees Cochran's
work in over 60 years. The head is Peggy Lou, one of four dolls in
the series. The torso is the well known "Anne Shirley" body
which Effanbee used on the original composition dolls. This doll is
produced in a specially formulated high quality hard vinyl. The costume
is an exact duplicate of the original clothing.
Effanbee was honored to have had this American Child selected by the
United States Post Office as one of the 15 doll represented on the
Classic American Dolls Commemorative Stamp issue. Dressed in a bright
red cotton lined coat and hat, with a light blue cotton simple dress.

wrist tag and gloves still in plastic. She is even still tied into
the box
